T-Vaughn Gibson (Freeport, Bahamas/Sun Land Academy) led all players with a career-high 25 points Monday night at Purchase, but it wasn't enough as the Privateers lost to their nearby Skyline-foe, 72-63. After dropping its third-straight contest, Maritime falls to 2-11 on the season (2-4 Skyline), while the Panthers improve to 7-5 (5-0 Skyline).
Gibson also had six rebounds on the night. Senior
Mike McSloy (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) recorded 20 points in the losing effort, while junior
Bill Sherwood (Freehold, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) added eight points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
Purchase was led by junior John Pressley, who poured in a team-high 21 points, while classmate D.J. Smith registered 17 points. Junior Justin Person nearly recorded a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds.
The Privateers return to action on Saturday, Jan. 14, when they travel up to Newburgh, N.Y., to take on conference opponent Mount Saint Mary. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Blue Knights' Kaplan Center.
