Men’s Soccer Game Day: First Road Game Of The Season Tonight At CSI; Tursi Named Skyline Player Of The Week; Hraska Jr. On Honor Roll

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Sept. 6, 2011) – The Maritime men's soccer team will take to the road on Thursday for the first time this year after its season-opening four-game homestand. The Privateers will visit the Dolphins of the College of Staten Island in a game slated to start at 4:30 p.m.

Inside The Series

            Thursday's game will be the fifth meeting in the past six seasons between the two teams. In the previous four meetings, the squads split the series 2-2. In 2010, the Privateers won 3-0 at home, as sophomore Haluk Erdogan (Izmir,Turkey/Aliaga Alp Oguz Anadolu Lisesi) had all three goals for Maritime, freshman Yunus Yildiz (Adapazari, Turkey/Yenikent Anudolu Lisesi) and then-junior Kevin Connolly (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) each picked up assists, and then-sophomore goalkeeper Michael Vanadia (Commack, N.Y./Commack) (Commack, N.Y./Commack) notched the shutout victory. In 2009, Staten Island won at home. In 2008, it was the Privateers that came away with an 8-4 home win and back in 2006, the Dolphins won 6-3 at Reinhart Field.

 

Tursi Named Skyline Men's Soccer Player Of The Week; Hraska Earns Honor Roll Nod

            Maritime senior midfielder Jason Tursi (Farmingdale, N.Y./Plainedge) (Farmingdale, N.Y./Plainedge) was named the Skyline Conference Player of the Week after his performances in the Privateers' first three games of the season last Thursday, Saturday and Monday. The 5-9, 180-pouner tallied two goals and added three assists during the opening week of action to lead Maritime to a 2-1 record in those three games.

            Also getting recognition for his play last week is freshman forward/midfielder David Hraska Jr. (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford). The 5-9, 168-pounder registered a goal and an assist in the Privateers' 5-1 win over Lehman and was a major contributor to the offense.
