STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (Sept. 8, 2011) – Sophomore Nick LaRocca (River Vale, N.J./Pascack Valley) (River Vale, N.J./Pascack Valley) grabbed a rebound of a shot by freshman Raphael Tavares (Belleville, N.J./Belleville) (Belleville, N.J./Belleville) and scored the game winning goal with 25 seconds to go to lift the Maritime men's soccer team over the College of Staten Island Thursday afternoon at the Dolphins' soccer complex. The win improves the Privateers record to 4-1 overall on the season, while CSI falls to 0-1-1.

Maritime actually trailed 1-0 late into the game because of a first-half goal by Dolphin sophomore Aziz Kabulniyazov after a good lead pass by junior Orsi Bermudez-Reyes found him. Sophomore goalkeeper John Dunne (Southold, N.Y./Southold) (Southold, N.Y./Southold) dove to save it, but Kabulniyazov snuck it past him.

The Privateers didn't find the equalizer until the 74th minute when a penalty kick was called due to a hand ball in the 18-yard box by a CSI defender. Freshman Oliver Garcia Ortiz (North Bergen, N.J./North Bergen) (North Bergen, N.J./North Bergen) buried the PK past Staten Island keeper, senior Ahmed El-Ghareib, to tie the game at 1-1. Maritime kept the pressure the rest of the second half and wound up outshooting the Dolphins 9-2 in the frame.

In goal, Dunne stopped three shots for his third win of the season, while El-Ghareib tallied nine in the losing effort.

The Privateers return to action on Saturday, Sept. 10, when they play host to the Beavers of the City College of New York at 1 p.m. at Reinhart Field.
