THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Sept. 6, 2011) – The Maritime men's soccer defeated Keystone College, 2-0, on a rainy Tuesday night at Reinhart Field. The win moves the Privateers' record to 3-1 on the young season, while the Giants fall to 0-2.

Keystone opened play strong and controlled much of the action in the first 25 minutes, but senior Jason Tursi (Farmingdale, N.Y./Plainedge) (Farmingdale, N.Y./Plainedge) scored his third goal of the season with just 28 seconds to go in the half after he took a pass down low across the goal box from junior Chris Knowlton (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) and buried it into the open left side.

The next goal wouldn't come until the 74th minute on a bizarre play that saw the Privateers' goalkeeper, sophomore John Dunne (Southold, N.Y./Southold) (Southold, N.Y./Southold), kick the ball upfield and senior David Kittinger (Fort Myers, Fla./South Fort Myers (Fla.)) (Fort Myers, Fla./South Fort Myers) chased it down, flicked it into the air way above the head of the keeper, who came out to play it, and the ball landed right into the vacant net. Dunne was credited with an assist on the play after the rocket of a kick. After that, the game got a little more physical, as a player on each team received yellow cards in the 81st minute, but Maritime held on for the 2-0 home victory.

In goal, Dunne made five saves, while sophomore Dany O'Rourke registered four saves for the Giants.

Maritime returns to action on Thursday, Sept. 8, for the team's first away game of the season at Staten Island of the CUNYAC Conference. First kickoff is at 4:30 p.m. at the Dolphins' soccer stadium.
