Men’s Soccer Wins On The Road At Mount Saint Mary, 2-0

        NEWBURGH, N.Y. (Sept. 28, 2011) – The Maritime men's soccer team defeated Mount Saint Mary on the road in Skyline Conference action Wednesday night by the score of 2-0. The Privateers improve to 7-2-2 (3-0 Skyline) on the season, while the Blue Knights fall to 4-4-1 (2-1 Skyline).
 

        With the win, Maritime moves into sole possession of first place early in the conference slate, with a showdown against #2 St. Joseph's on Saturday.
 

        The first half was scoreless, as the Privateers led the shot total by the margin of 7-3. The first goal came in the 59th minute when freshman Oliver Garcia Ortiz (North Bergen, N.J./North Bergen) (North Bergen, N.J./North Bergen) hooked a shot into the left side of the net off a direct kick from 22 yards out. Classmate Raphael Tavares (Belleville, N.J./Belleville) (Belleville, N.J./Belleville) scored Maritime's insurance goal in the 66th minute off a cross from the right side by senior Tom Federico (Islip, N.Y./Islip) (Islip, N.Y. / Islip).
 

        In goal, junior Michael Vanadia (Commack, N.Y./Commack) (Commack, N.Y./Commack) picked up his first win since Sept. 3 against Lehman and his first shutout of the season. He faced no shots on goal during the game. For the Mount, sophomore keeper Matt Darling turned aside four shots despite the loss.
 

        Maritime will take on St. Joseph's on Saturday, Oct. 1, at Reinhart Field. Game time is scheduled for 5 p.m.
