THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Sept. 19, 2011) – The Maritime men's soccer team battled visiting John Jay College to a scoreless draw Monday night in non-conference action at Reinhart Field. The tie moves the Privateers' record to 5-2-2 overall, while the Bloodhounds become 1-7-2.

John Jay possessed the ball more in the first half and had the better of the scoring chances, despite being outshot by Maritime, 6-4. In the second half, the Privateers started to gain a little bit more momentum, but a number of chances down low were either saved, high or just wide of the net.

The Privateers best chance came late in the second half, when they were awarded a penalty kick after two John Jay yellow cards on one play that occurred in the box with 3:48 to go on the clock. However, freshman Oliver Garcia Ortiz (North Bergen, N.J./North Bergen)'s (North Bergen, N.J./North Bergen) shot from the 12-yard mark was saved by the Bloodhound's freshman keeper, Vitecha Vochaon, who guessed left and dove to make the huge stop. Regulation would end, which brought on Maritime's second overtime game of the season.

In the first minute of overtime, John Jay sophomore Edward Gonzalez was assessed a red card after receiving a second yellow and the Privateers played the rest of the game a man-up. They had plenty of good chances, registering five shots over the two overtime periods, but could not find the back of the net for the game-winner.

In total, there were five yellow cards dished out on the night, three for John Jay and two for Maritime. Then the second yellow for the Bloodhounds, which counted as a red card.

Vochaon finished the night with nine saves to earn the shutout, while his counterpart for Maritime, sophomore John Dunne (Southold, N.Y./Southold) (Southold, N.Y./Southold), was equally as stellar, making five saves for his second shutout of the season.

The Privateers return to action on Saturday, Sept. 24, for their first road Skyline Conference game of the season at Old Westbury. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Old Westbury's Panther Park.
