Vassar Shuts Out Men's Soccer, 4-0, Friday

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (Sept. 16, 2011) – The Maritime men's soccer team lost to Vassar College, 4-0, on the road Friday afternoon. The defeat drops the Privateers' record to 4-2-1 overall, while the Brewers improve to 5-1-1.

Vassar scored two goals quickly in the opening half, in the eighth minute by senior Ross Macklin and in the 16th minute by senior Sam E. McCarthy The first was shot off a free kick 24 yards out into lower corner, while the second was deflected in off of Maritime sophomore keeper John Dunne (Southold, N.Y./Southold) (Southold, N.Y./Southold). Shots were 15-0 in the first half.

The Brewers didn't strike again until 53rd minute, when freshman Tom Weichert found the back of the net off a long cross by junior Simon Whitelaw. Freshman Robert Torrence ended the scoring in the 87th minute when he received a pass from classmate Andre Cousineau and hit a hard shot into the low corner.

Dunne was forced to make eight saves on the night, as Vassar outshot Maritime, 26-3. In goal for the Brewers, sophomore Ryan Grimme made one save to earn the victory.

Maritime returns to action on Sunday night, Sept. 18, when they play host to Medgar Evers of the CUNY Athletic Conference. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.at Reinhart Field.
