Women’s Lacrosse Loses To Skyline Foe Kean, 19-4

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (April 5, 2011) – The Maritime women's lacrosse team lost at home to Skyline opponent Kean, 19-4, Tuesday night at Reinhart Field. The defeat drops the Privateers' record to 1-9 overall (0-6 Skyline), while the Cougars improve to 5-5 (4-1 Skyline).

Maritime got two goals by junior Kristen Saporito (Rocky Point, N.Y./Rocky Point) (Rocky Point, N.Y./Rocky Point) and a goal apiece from classmate Catherine Brady (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North) (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North) and senior Jill Davenport (Miller Place, N.Y./Miller Place) (Miller Place, N.Y./Miller Place). Saporito also had a game-high nine ground balls and caused one turnover, while Brady led the Privateers with two draw controls. In goal, sophomore Courtney Marietta (Grantville, Pa./Lower Dauphin) (Grantville, Pa./Lower Dauphin) had six saves in the losing effort.

Kean was led by sophomore Lyndsey Cannon, who recorded a game-high seven points on five goals and two assists. Senior Amanda South had four goals for the Cougars, while sophomore Stephanie Tocko registered two goals and two assists. Senior goalie Ashlie Berghold played the first half and earned the victory after making four saves. She gave way to sophomore Jules Keeley, who recorded six saves in the second half.

The Privateers return to action this Saturday, April 9, when they travel to take Skyline opponent Sage. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Harkness Field on the campus of RPI in Troy, N.Y.
