THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (April 20, 2011) – The Maritime baseball team was swept by Skyline-rival Farmingdale State in a doubleheader Wednesday at Reinhart Field. The scores of the game were 8-0 and 4-1. In defeat, the Privateers fall to 14-15 overall (5-11 Skyline), while the Rams improve to 18-11 (12-4 Skyline).

Farmingdale used the long ball in the first game, as they led off four innings with home runs. For five straight innings the leadoff batter was able to score for the Rams. In the fifth, they scored twice on a homer and a sac fly. Farmingdale's senior Frank Yera went yard twice and was 3-for-4 with four RBIs in the game. Despite striking out 10, sophomore Christopher Myers (Middlesex, N.J./Middlesex) (Middlesex, N.J./Middlesex) suffered the loss after pitching 7.0 innings and allowing six runs (five earned) on nine hits. Junior Chris Phelan earned the victory, tossing 7.1 innings of six-hit ball and striking out seven.

In game two, the Rams jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, scoring a run in the first inning on an RBI-single by sophomore Terrence Bohonan. They added another in the third and two more in the fifth on a two-run home run by senior Kevin Curtis to go up 4-0. The Privateers scored their lone run of the day in the bottom of the fifth, when Myers brought home freshman Nick Galli (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph by the Sea) (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph by the Sea). Farmingdale's starter, junior C.J. Bula was dominant, carrying a no-hitter into the fifth inning, his win was his fifth of the season as he improves to an undefeated 5-0. Freshman Kurt Niemeyer (Nanuet, N.Y./Nanuet Senior) (Nanuet, N.Y./Nanuet Senior) took the loss after giving up four runs on 10 hits, while striking out three.

The Privateers return tomorrow, when they travel across the Bronx to play Lehman College in a single, nine-inning non-conference game. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Lightning's South Field.
