OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. (April 10, 2011) – The Maritime baseball team split its Skyline Conference doubleheader Sunday at Old Westbury's Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex, winning the first game, 10-8, and dropping the second, 8-4. The Privateers' record moves to 12-12 (4-8 Skyline), while the Panthers end up 13-12 (5-5 Skyline).

Maritime was down to its last out in the first game and rallied to score three runs and turn a one-run deficit into a two-run lead. A two-RBI single by sophomore Trevor Cannella (Sea Cliff, N.Y./North Shore) with the bases loaded proved to be the winner. That was followed by an RBI single by senior Ryan Simpson (Levittown, N.Y./Holy Trinity). The Privateers won despite committing nine errors in the game.

Sophomore Christopher Myers (Middlesex, N.J./Middlesex) earned the victory on the mound, tossing a complete game, allowing eight runs (seven earned) on eight hits and striking out two Panther batters. Old Westbury's senior Marvin Rosario suffered the loss after pitching 3.2 innings and allowing the three ninth inning runs, three hits and striking out four.

In game two, the Panthers scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning to take an early lead. They built the lead up to 7-0 before Maritime got on the board in the top of the fifth on a two-RBI double by sophomore Joey Semler (Kirkland, Wash./Lake Washington). Maritime would tack on two more in it's last chance to comeback in the top of the seventh, but that was not enough as the home team took the win.

Simpson pitched the second game and suffered the loss after allowing eight runs (seven earned) on 10 hits and striking out one batter in five innings. He gave way to sophomore Max Lockwood (Babylon, N.Y./Babylon), who pitched one scoreless 1-2-3 sixth inning. Old Westbury's junior Chris Sanabria earned the victory, pitching the complete game, allowing four runs on nine hits and striking out two.

Freshman Nick Galli (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph by the Sea) led the Privateers on the day, going 5-for-7 from the plate (a perfect 4-for-4 in the first game) with two RBIs and two runs scored.

Maritime returns to action on Wednesday, March 13, when the squad plays host to non-conference opponent St. Joseph's of Brooklyn. Game time of the first of two seven-inning contests is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at Reinhart Field.
