THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (March 23, 2011) – The Maritime women's lacrosse team lost on the road Wednesday to Skyline Conference opponent the Dolphins of Mount Saint Vincent, 20-6. The Privateers fall to 1-4 overall (0-2 Skyline), while the Dolphins improve to 3-2 overall (3-0 Skyline).
Junior center Catherine Brady (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North) led the Privateers with three goals and a caused turnover. Junior midfielder Kristen Saporito (Rocky Point, N.Y./Rocky Point) tallied two goals and also led the team in ground balls with five. Rounding out the scoring was senior Jill Davenport (Miller Place, N.Y./Miller Place) with one goal. Defensively, the Privateers picked up nineteen groundballs and four caused turnovers. Sophomore goalie Courtney Marietta (Grantville, Pa./Lower Dauphin) tallied fourteen saves and picked up three ground balls.
Leading the offense for the Dolphins was midfielder Nicole Flores who found the net five times, picked up three groundballs and tallied two caused turnovers. Defensively, midfielder Jessie Mitchell picked up ten groundballs and created six caused turnovers, while goalkeeper Michelle Miller was credited with the win and made four saves.
The Privateers go on the road again this Saturday, March 26, where they will play conference opponent the Red Hawks of Montclair State. The game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start at Sprague Field.
