THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (March 19, 2011) – The Maritime women's lacrosse team lost at home today in a Skyline Conference matchup against Farmingdale State, 17-3. The Privateers fall to 1-3 overall (0-1 Skyline), while the Rams improve to 2-2 (1-0 Skyline).
Scoring for Maritime were juniors Catherine Brady (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North) and Kristen Saporito (Rocky Point, N.Y./Rocky Point) with one goal each, while sophomore Kristen Wilson (Baldwin, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) scored her first goal of the season off a free position opportunity. Leading in defensive stats for the Privateers was Victoria DeLouise (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side ) who picked up four ground balls and two caused turnovers. Sophomore goalie Courtney Marietta (Grantville, Pa./Lower Dauphin) was credited with nine saves in the game as well as three ground balls and three caused turnovers.
The Rams were led by Emily Williams who found the net four times while picking up just as many ground balls. Attackers Krystin Shand and Justine Rothar, along with midfielder Kim Rigney each racked up hat tricks on the day. Goalkeeper Courtney Cook racked up eight saves for the win.
Up next for the Privateers is conference opponent The College of Mount Saint Vincent who they'll meet at their place in Riverdale, N.Y., on Wednesday, March 23. Game time is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
