Women’s Lacrosse Tripped Up On The Road At Hartwick

ONEONTA, N.Y. (March 12, 2011) – The Maritime women's lacrosse team lost on the road to non-conference opponent Hartwick, 19-2, Saturday afternoon at the Hawks' Wright Stadium. The Privateers fall to 1-2 overall on the season, while Hartwick improves to 3-0 to start the 2011 campaign.

Maritime scored the first goal of the game when junior Catherine Brady (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North) found the back of the net on a free position shot at 25:34 of the opening half. Senior Jill Davenport (Miller Place, N.Y./Miller Place) also scored, unassisted, for the Privateers at 5:24 of the second half to round out the goals for Maritime. Sophomore Courtney Marietta (Grantville, Pa./Lower Dauphin) (Grantville, Pa./Lower Dauphin) recorded six saves in net in the losing effort.

The Hawks were led by three different players that recorded hat tricks: junior Hannah Kennedy, sophomore Ryan McGovern and freshman Brittany McCabe. In goal, senior Jen Kaye recorded three saves for the victory.

The Privateers will have a week of competition off and next face Skyline Conference-opponent Farmingdale State on Saturday, March 19, in the first game of a men's and women's lacrosse doubleheader. Maritime and the Rams will square off at 1 p.m. before the men take on Mass. Maritime later in the day.
