Privateers End Season With 60-58 Home Loss To Yeshiva On Senior Night

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Feb. 19, 2011) – In the final game of the 2010-11 season Saturday night, the Maritime men's basketball team lost at home to Yeshiva, 60-58, on Senior Night at the Riesenberg Hall Gymnasium. With the loss, the Privateers end the year with an 8-17 record (6-14 Skyline), while the Maccabees improves to 6-18 (6-13 Skyline).

Junior Sam Porte (Harlem, N.Y./H.S. for Math, Science & Engineering) led the way for the Privateers with a career- and game-high 17 points, while leading all players with 10 rebounds for his second double-double of the year. 11 of Porte's points came in the second half. Senior Giovanni Hurley (Brooklyn, N.Y./Middle College High) tallied 13 points with six rebounds in his final game at Maritime.

Classmate Andrew Geisel (Media, Pa./Penncrest) ended his career with a nine-point performance, while fellow graduating senior Paul Suarino finished with a career-high six rebounds. The final senior on the Privateers, Tavaris Adderly saw three minutes of action. Junior Mike McSloy (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) scored 13 points, while freshman Joseph Oriti (Somers, N.Y./Somers) finished the year off on a positive note with a career-high six points.

The game came down to the final buzzer, as the Privateers had to foul twice late to put the Maccabees on the line. Junior Omer Haim made three of first four late for Yeshiva and Maritime rebounded the missed free throw with 19 seconds remaining, ran the ball up-court and called a timeout down, 60-58. The last shot wouldn't drop for the Privateers, however, and the Macs held on for the road win.

Yeshiva was led by Haim, who scored 15 points and brought down a team-high six rebounds, while dishing out a game-high six assists. Two others players scored in double-figures for the Macs, as seniors Daniel Somech and Simon Brookim each finished with 10 points. Yeshiva finished the game shooting 52.1-percent from the field (25-for-48) to Maritime's 44.6-percent (25-for-56), and benefited from 13 steals, including a five by Haim, who led all players.
