McSloy’s 30 Points Propels Privateers To 62-55 Victory Over Skyline-Foe Yeshiva

        THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Dec. 8, 2011) – Led by senior Mike McSloy (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park)'s (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) game-high 30 points, the Maritime men's basketball team defeated visiting Yeshiva University, 62-55, in Skyline Conference action Saturday night at the Riesenberg Hall Gymnasium. The win improves the Privateers to 2-8 overall on the season (2-2 Skyline), while the Maccabees fall to 2-8 (2-4 Skyline).
 
        McSloy was clutch down the stretch en route to his career-high performance. He accounted for 10 of Maritime's 17 points in the last 5:49 of the game, including a go-ahead 3-pointer with 3:29 to go that gave the Privateers their first lead of the second half. Grad student Sam Porte (Harlem, N.Y./H.S. for Math, Science & Engineering) (Harlem, N.Y./Math, Sci. & Engin.) recorded his team-high fourth double-double performance of the season with 12 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.
 
        The score changed hands four times in the first half before the Macs went into the locker room with 30-25 advantage. In the second half, Yeshiva built its lead up to 10 points right from the opening whistle. Maritime would respond to cut the lead to just three points, but again the Maccabees built up a big lead, this a nine-point advantage, 47-38, with 9:30 to play after a pair of free throws by junior Gil Bash (Tel Aviv, Israel).
 
        McSloy's go-ahead trey at 3:29 capped off a 16-6 run by the Privateers, but junior Dovie Hoffman (Tarzana, Calif.) responded with a layup. Maritime took the lead for good, 56-55, after two free throws by freshman T-Vaughn Gibson (Freeport, Bahamas) with 1:54 to go. Gibson ended the night with seven points. A dunk by sophomore Jack Cole (Bethany Beach, Del./Indian River) (Bethany Beach, Del./Indian River) sealed the victory.
 
        Hoffman scored a team-high 22 points and had five rebounds for the Macs. Bash chipped in with 15 points, while also bringing down six rebounds and dishing out four assists.
 
        The Privateers go into the winter break on a positive note and will return back to action on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2012, when the play host to local non-conference foe Lehman College. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m. at the Riesenberg Hall Gymnasium.
