THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Nov. 29, 2011) – The Maritime men's basketball team lost to visiting Sage, 76-64, Tuesday night at the Riesenberg Hall Gymnasium in the Privateers' home-opener. In defeat, Maritime falls to 1-4 on the season (1-1 Skyline), while Sage improves to 3-2 (1-0 Skyline).

Sage won the battle of the boards, 44-27, and shot an impressive 50.9-percent from the field (29-for-57) on the night. After four ties and five lead changes, the Gators built a five-point lead, 17-12, at 11:32 on a jumper by senior Dalton Austin-Michaud and then extended it to as many as 10 points, 36-26, at 3:24 on another basket by Austin-Michaud. The Privateers fought back to within six after a jumper by McSloy, which ended the scoring in the first half with the score, 32-28, in favor of Sage.
In the second half, Sage was strong right out of the gate, improving its lead to 17 points just six minutes into the half. The Privateers responded well after a number of timeouts and a McSloy 3-pointer capped a 14-4 run as Maritime closed to within seven, 57-50, with 9:12 remaining. The momentum shifted back in favor of the Gators, however, as they ran off a 13-6 run to jump ahead by 14-points after a 3-point play at 1:49 made the score 70-56.
Sage's Dalton Austin-Michaud led all players with 22 points and pulled down six boards, while his twin-brother Ian nearly recorded a triple-double with 14 points, 13 rebounds and six assists. Junior Ryan Sager tallied 10 points to round out the game's double-digit scorers.
The Privateers return to action this weekend, when they travel to New London, Conn., to take part in the Camel/Cadet Classic, hosted by both Connecticut College and the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. First game is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 2, at Conn. College at 6 p.m.
