THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Oct. 23, 2011) – The Maritime men's soccer team played Skyline opponent NYU-Poly to a 1-1 tie Saturday night at the Aviator Sports Complex in Brooklyn. The tie moves the Privateers to 10-4-3 overall (5-2-1 Skyline) while the Fighting Blue Jays move to 7-8-3 (6-3-1 Skyline).
Maritime now sits in fourth place in the Skyline with 16 points with one conference game remaining on Thursday that will finalize seeding for the Skyline tournament, which begins next weekend.
Sophomore
Nick LaRocca (River Vale, N.J./Pascack Valley) (River Vale, N.J./Pascack Valley) scored the first goal of the game off an assist by senior
Jason Tursi (Farmingdale, N.Y./Plainedge) (Farmingdale, N.Y./Plainedge) in the fifth minute. Poly tied the game in the 38th minute on a goal by Omar Guerrero. The score remained the same the rest of the game, despite the Blue Jays outshooting the Privateers by a count of 19-3, including a 4-2 advantage in the two overtime periods.
In goal, sophomore
John Dunne (Southold, N.Y./Southold) (Southold, N.Y./Southold) recorded seven saves on the night, while Poly's Brendan Finn made five stops.
Maritime returns to action tonight when the team travels to New London, Conn. for a non-conference matchup against Coast Guard. Game time against the Bears is scheduled for 6 p.m.
