Men’s Soccer Halts Losing Streak With 2-1 Double OT Win Over Baruch

        THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Oct. 10, 2011) – The Maritime men's soccer team defeated visiting Baruch College, 2-1, in double overtime Monday night at Reinhart Field. The win improves the Privateers to 8-4-2 overall, while the Bearcats fall to 5-7-1.
 
        Senior Jason Tursi (Farmingdale, N.Y./Plainedge) (Farmingdale, N.Y./Plainedge) tallied the game-winner in the 103rd minute when his corner kick bent high into the crease area and deflected off a Baruch defender and into the net. It was his team-leading second game-winning goal of the season.
 
        Tursi also had a hand in Maritime's first goal of the game, as he assisted the tally by junior Ryan Nugent (Carmel, N.Y./Kennedy Catholic) (Carmel, N.Y./Kennedy Catholic) in the 13th minute that opened the scoring. Baruch tallied the equalizer in the 75th minute, as senior Akil George headed in a corner kick off the boot of Andreas Hansson. The Bearcats had the better opportunities in the first overtime, but couldn't find the back of the net.
 
        Sophomore John Dunne (Southold, N.Y./Southold) (Southold, N.Y./Southold) made two of his seven saves in the first extra 10 minutes. He earned the victory, his sixth of the season. Baruch used all three of their dressed goalkeepers. Junior Michael Murphy started the game and played the entire first half, allowing one goal and making four saves. He was replaced at the beginning of the second half by freshman Helder Correia, who played 38-plus minutes before giving way to sophomore Peter DiBona, who played 19:17 and allowed the game-winning goal to suffer the loss.
 
        Maritime returns to action this Wednesday, when the squad plays host to Skyline opponent Sage at 7 p.m. at Reinhart Field.
