THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Jan. 4, 2011) – The Skyline Conference announced Monday night that Maritime senior forward Giovanni Hurley (Brooklyn, N.Y./Middle College High) (Brooklyn, N.Y./Middle College High) was named the Conference Player of the Week after his triple-double effort last week in a 92-79 home loss against an undefeated NYU team. This is the first Player of the Week accolade of his career and the second time he was honored in the weekly awards – he was Skyline Rookie of the Week back on Jan. 21, 2008. Hurley has also been named to the Skyline weekly honor roll three times this season (Nov. 22, Dec. 6 and Dec. 30).
In the second half of the game against the Violets last Thursday, Hurley recorded his 1,000th career point and helped the team capture the lead with less than 11 minutes to play. Despite his strong performance – scoring 35 points, bringing down 12 rebounds and registering 10 steals – the Privateers lost to the strong NYU team.
