BROOKLYN, N.Y. (Sept. 3, 2010) – The Maritime men's soccer team opened the 2010 season with a 3-1 loss on the road at Brooklyn College Friday evening. The Privateers begin the year with a 0-1 record, while the Bulldogs start off 1-0.
Maritime scored the first goal of the contest just 8:36 into play when freshman midfielder David Sparozic (Carmel, N.Y./Mahopac) found the back of the net off of a pass by junior Tom Federico (Islip, N.Y./Islip) (Islip, N.Y./Islip). It didn't take long for Brooklyn to find the equalizer, as Pajtim Gjonbalaj answered right back just under three minutes later.
Gionbalaj scored again in the 38th minute to give the Bulldogs a 2-1 lead, which they took into halftime. In the 53rd minute, Mack Diller tallied his first goal of the year adding an insurance score.
Senior keeper Harris Papson (Flushing, N.Y./Francis Lewis) made two stops on the night in 78 minutes of play. For Brooklyn Stamatis Boundouris earned the victory in goal by stopping nine Privateer shots on net.
Maritime returns to the pitch on Monday, Sept. 6, when they travel to Manhattan to take on John Jay College at noon.
