CORAM, N.Y. (Sept. 29, 2010) – After playing their last six games at home, the Maritime men's soccer team travelled to Diamond in the Pines Soccer Field on Long Island Wednesday night to take on Skyline-opponent St. Joseph's. The Privateers rallied from allowing an early goal to defeat the Golden Eagles, 3-1, and improve to 7-4 overall and a perfect 3-0 in Skyline action, while St. Joe's falls to 5-6 (1-2 Skyline).
Sophomore keeper Michael Vanadia (Commack, N.Y./Commack) (Commack, N.Y./Commack) stood tall in net for Maritime, making a season- and career-high 11 saves on the night to preserve the victory. After the first goal of the game to Terrence Dzus in the 17th minute, the Privateers wasted no time finding the equalizer, as junior John Blunden (Arlington, Va./Washington) found the back of the net just over five minutes later.
In the 41st minute, junior Jason Tursi (Farmingdale, N.Y./Plainedge) (Farmingdale, N.Y./Plainedge) scored on a shot from 25-yrd line to give Maritime a 2-1 lead, which remained that way into halftime. Junior David Kittinger (Fort Myers, Fla./South Fort Myers (Fla.)) (Fort Myers, Fla./South Fort Myers High) scored an insurance goal for the Privateers in the 65th minute on a shot from just outside the 18-yard box.
St. Joseph's keeper Peter Ryan made three saves in the losing effort.
Maritime returns to action this Saturday, Oct. 2, when the squad plays host to Skyline-foe NYU-Poly. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Reinhart Field.
