THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (April 27, 2010) – The Maritime baseball team (11-17, 7-9 Skyline) will travel to Newburgh, N.Y., tomorrow, Wednesday, April 28, to take on Mount Saint Mary (12-18, 10-6 Skyline) in the opening round of the 2010 Skyline Conference Championships. First pitch is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. at the Blue Knights' Delano-Hitch Stadium.
How They Got There
The Privateers clinched their berth to the Skyline Tournament with a doubleheader-sweep of NYU-Poly on Saturday at Reinhart Field. With the pair of victories, Maritime secured its spot as the No. 6 seed after going into the weekend tied for the final playoff spot with Purchase. This marks the first time that this group of Maritime players has qualified for the postseason.
Mount Saint Mary earned the No. 3 seed in the tournament after sweeping Purchase in a doubleheader on Saturday. The Blue Knights will be playing in their third-straight Skyline Conference Championship.
Previous Meetings This Season
The two teams met on Saturday, April 17, at Maritime with Mount Saint Mary designated as the home team in the doubleheader. The Blue Knights won the opener by the score of 4-0, but the Privateers responded by taking the second game, 5-3. Game 1 Box Score. Game 2 Box Score.
Mayer Named To Skyline Weekly Honor Roll
Maritime senior pitcher Andrew Mayer (Sag Harbor, N.Y./Pierson) (Sag Harbor, N.Y.) was named to the Skyline baseball weekly honor roll after capturing his second win of the season in the first game of the doubleheader against NYU-Poly on Saturday, April 24.
Mayer pitched seven strong innings allowing just one run on three hits, while striking out four batters. The 6-3, 210-pounder's overall record on the season improved to 2-4, while his ERA dropped to 4.10, which ranks second on the Privateers' pitching staff. Mayer currently ranks fourth in the Skyline in keeping opponents to just a .236 batting average, while his 38 hits allowed also ranks fourth and his six walks allowed ranks second. As of April 18, he was nationally ranked in the top 300 in both hits (231st) and walks (48th) allowed per nine innings.

Maritime Among Nation's Best In Stolen Bases
The Privateers lead the Skyline Conference with 112 stolen bases. As of April 18, Maritime ranked fourth among all Division III schools in the nation with 3.52 steals per game. Currently, the squad has 4.00 swipes per game.
Sophomore Jonathan Proscia (Franklin Square, N.Y./Holy Trinity) (Franklin Square, N.Y.) currently leads all Skyline players with 25 stolen bases, while junior AJ McPartlan (Huntington Station, N.Y./Walt Whitman) (Huntington Station, N.Y.) ranks fourth with 18. As of April 18, Proscia ranked 18th in the nation with 0.76 stolen bases per game, but has since had six stolen bases over the final three games to improve that number to 0.89.
2010 Skyline Tournament Information
The opening round of the 2010 Skyline Baseball Championships will begin on Wednesday with two games. The No. 6-seed Privateers will travel face the No. 3-seed Blue Knights at 2:30 p.m. No. 5-seed Mount Saint Vincent will travel to Westbury, N.Y., to take on No. 4-seed Old Westbury at 7 p.m.
The winners of both of those games on Wednesday will enter into a double-elimination tournament with the top two seeds, No. 1 Farmingdale State and No. 2 St. Joseph's, to be played throughout this weekend, Friday, April 30 to Sunday, May 2, at Farmingdale.
