Women's Lacrosse Falls To Mount Saint Vincent, 19-10

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (April 24, 2010) – The Maritime women's lacrosse team lost to conference-opponent Mount Saint Vincent, 19-10, on Saturday in the squad's final home game of 2010 at Reinhart Field. With the loss, the Privateers fall to 3-11 overall (2-5 Skyline), while the Dolphins improve to 6-5 overall (5-3 Skyline).

 

Sophomore Kristen Saportio (Rocky Point, N.Y.) scored a team-high five goals for Maritime, while tying for the team-best in draw controls with three. Classmate Catherine Brady (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North) (Holbrook, N.Y.) recorded a hat trick with three goals and picked up four ground balls and three draw controls, while senior Heather Christiansen (Baldwin, N.Y./Baldwin) (Baldwin, N.Y.) had one goal and led the team with five ground balls. Freshman Jorrie Trenkamp (Tabernacle, N.J./Seneca) (Tabernacle, N.J.) rounded out the scoring for the Privateers, while registering three ground balls and three draw controls.

 

Maritime led for most of the second half, building up its lead to as many as four goals at 6-2. In the final 8:25 of the opening period, the Dolphins would put together a five goal streak to take a 7-6 lead, which they took into halftime.

 

Mount scored the first goal of the second half and the scoring was back and forth until after Brady scored to make it 9-8, Mount Saint Vincent. The Dolphins went on a tear that made the game unreachable, scoring eight times to expand its lead to 17-8.

 

For Mount Saint Vincent, Kelly Martin led all players with 10 points (six goals and four assists), while matching teammate Katie Tucci for the team-high in draw controls with five.

 

The Privateers return to action tomorrow, April 25, when they travel to Newburgh, N.Y., to take on Skyline opponent Mount Saint Mary. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
