There were a combined 16 runs scored between the two teams through the first two innings, as Kings Point tallied four in the top of the first before Maritime responded by scoring five runs in the bottom of the first. Senior Mike Zieser (Clark, N.J./Johnston) (Clark, N.J.) led off the bottom half with a solo home run, followed by a single by freshman Ed Martinez (Yonkers, N.Y./Stepinac) (Yonkers, N.Y.). Proscia plated Martinez with a double, then stole third base two batters later and score on an RBI-single by junior AJ McPartlan (Huntington Station, N.Y./Walt Whitman) (Huntington Station, N.Y.). Up next, junior Matthew Montanes (Elmhurst, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) (Elmhurst, N.Y.) knocked a two-run homer over the wall to give Maritime a 5-4 lead.

The Mariners recaptured the lead with six runs in the top of the second inning. Only three runs were earned however, as the Privateers committed three errors in the frame. Maritime pulled back within four, 10-6, in the bottom of the second, after an RBI-single by Proscia scored freshman Christopher Myers (Middlesex, N.J./Middlesex) (Middlesex, N.J.).

Freshman Christopher Santoro (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) hit an RBI-single in the bottom of the third that plated McPartlan to cut the deficit to 10-7. Merchant Marine tacked on one more run in the top of the fourth to go ahead 11-7. In the bottom of the fifth, Proscia got his third hit of the day, a single, and stole his third base to get to second. He scored on an RBI-single by Montanes to make the score, 11-8. Kings Point would respond with an unearned run in the top of the seventh.

Maritime scored two runs to pull within 12-10 in the bottom of the seventh. Senior Henry Killian (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Our Lady of Lourdes) (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) and Myers led off the inning with back-to-back singles that set up a first and third situation. Myers stole second before Zieser had an RBI-groundout that score Killian. Myers would come around to score on a sacrifice fly by Martinez.

With last licks in the bottom of the ninth, the Privateers were trailing 13-10. Proscia led off with his fifth base hit of the night and stole second base. Senior Greg Oliva (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) (Seaford, N.Y.) reached on an error by the shortstop that moved Proscia over to third. McPartlan then struck out, but Oliva stoles second, allowing Proscia to score on his sixth stolen base of the game, cutting the deficit to 13-11. However, the Mariners' closer, Andy Martin, was able to strike out the final two batters, picking up his second save of the season on three strikeouts.

Freshman reliever Patrick Hall (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) (Wantagh, N.Y.) suffered the loss, his first decision of the season. Hall pitched the six-run second inning, but only allowed three earned runs on five hits while striking out one. Junior Anthony Tenga (Throggs Neck, N.Y./Fordham Prep) (Throggs Neck, N.Y.) pitched 3.2 innings after Hall and allowed two runs on four hits while striking out two, before giving way to freshman Red Burke (Warwick, N.Y./Don Bosco Prep (N.J.)) (Warwick, N.Y.) who hurled 3.1 innings and allowed an unearned run on four hits with five strikeouts. Freshman Luke Milano (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) (Wantagh, N.Y.) got the start for Maritime but only lasted one inning, allowing four earned runs on just two hits and striking out five.
