Women’s Lacrosse Falls To Kean On The Road, 19-4

UNION, N.J. (April 14, 2010) – The Maritime women's lacrosse team dropped a Skyline Conference matchup to Kean University, 19-4, Wednesday afternoon at the Cougars' Kean Alumni Stadium. With the loss, the Privateers fall to 1-8 overall (0-4 Skyline), while Kean improves its record to 5-7 overall (3-2 Skyline).

 

Sophomores Catherine Brady (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North) (Holbrook, N.Y.) and Kristen Saporito (Rocky Point, N.Y./Rocky Point) (Rocky Point, N.Y.) each recorded two goals apiece for Maritime in the defeat. In net, senior goalie Meagan Golden (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Pleasant) (Point Pleasant, N.J.) stopped eight Cougar shots throughout the day. Brady was the team's leader in draw controls with five and ground balls with three, while Saporito picked up three draw controls and junior Jill Davenport (Miller Place, N.Y./Miller Place) (Miller Place, N.Y.) controlled two after the draw. Junior Natalie Warren (Peachtree City, Ga./Homeschooled) (Peachtree City, Ga.) and freshman Jorrie Trenkamp (Tabernacle, N.J./Seneca) (Tabernacle, N.J.) each picked up two ground balls.

 

The Privateers trailed 9-3 at the half, as Kean outshot them 14-6. After falling behind 6-0, Maritime scored three of the next four goals in the middle of the first, including two straight by Saporito, to cut the lead to 7-3. Brady would score her second of the game and the first of the second half to make the score 9-4, Cougars, but Kean would go on to score the final 10 goals of the game to claim the victory.

 

Maritime returns to the field tomorrow, April 15, when the squad travels to Lancaster, Pa. to take on the Lancaster Bible College (4-7 overall). Game time is scheduled for 5 p.m.
