THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (March 10, 2010) – Maritime freshman Chris Myers was named the Skyline Conference Baseball Rookie of the Week for his contributions during the Privateers' opening week of action. Maritime earned a season-opening victory over John Jay, 11-10, on Tuesday, March 9, before falling to Baruch, 9-6, in a hard fought battle the next day.

Myers was instrumental in the win over the Bloodhounds, going 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs and two runs scored. The rookie had an RBI double in the four-run fourth inning, then hit a game-tying solo home run in the bottom of the fifth. Against the Bearcats on Wednesday, the Middlesex, N.J., native got the starting pitcher nod from first-year head coach Eugene Steinbach and put forth a four-inning, five-strikeout performance while allowing four runs on six hits.

Also announced on Monday, junior Matthew Montanes (Elmhurst, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) earned a spot on the Skyline Baseball weekly honor roll for his role in Tuesday's win over John Jay. The Elmhurst, N.Y., native went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBIs, including a leadoff home run in the bottom of the eighth that stood as the game-winner.

The Privateers return to action on Wednesday, March 17, when they play host to the Beavers of the City College of New York. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Reinhart Field.
