THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Feb. 16, 2010) – Maritime senior Andre Cooper (Baltimore, Md./Southwestern) was named to the Skyline Conference men's basketball weekly honor roll, announced by the conference on Monday. The accolade comes after Cooper helped lead the Privateers to a 2-1 record last week, with victories over Berkeley and Sage.

Cooper led Maritime with 21.3 points per game during the week, while bringing down 7.3 rpg, dishing out 4.0 assists per game and registering 2.3 steals per game. He was also 7-for-13 from beyond the arc. In Tuesday night's 89-57 win over Berkeley, the senior recorded his first double-double of the season with 20 points and 10 rebounds. The Baltimore, Md., native followed that performance by leading all players with 23 points on Thursday at Sage, including 19 in the second half. On Saturday against Purchase, the 6-2, 165-pounder scored a team-high 21 points.

Cooper ranks in the top 10 among Skyline basketball players in four categories. He is third in the conference with a .407 3-point shooting percentage, fifth in points per game with 16.3, seventh with 3.52 assists per game and tenth with 1.67 steals per game.

Three other Maritime players are statistically listed in the top 10 of the league: senior Adedokun Olanrewaju (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin) and juniors Shamair Williams (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin) and Giovanni Hurley (Brooklyn, N.Y./Middle College High). Olanrewaju ranks second in the conference with 8.8 rebounds per game, while his 54.5-precent shooting from the first is third, his 77.5-percent shooting from the free-throw line is fourth and his 1.70 steals per game ranks ninth. Williams is the conference-leader in three-point shooting percentage with a 45.6-percent mark, while his 52.9-percent shooting from the field ranks fifth. Hurley ranks fourth in the Skyline with 2.29 steals per game and seventh in both rebounds per game (7.1) and blocks per game (0.95).

As a team, Maritime leads the conference in seven of the 10 statistical categories: scoring defense (61.3 points per game), scoring margin (+12.6), field goal percentage (47.7-percent), field goal percentage defense (39.9-percent), three point field goal percentage (37.6-percent), rebounding margin (+5.6) and steals per game (10.41). The Privateers' 73.9 points per game rank third in the Skyline.

Maritime (17-5, 13-4 Skyline) returns to action tonight, Feb. 16, when the squad will travel to Long Island to take on conference-opponent Farmingdale State (11-11, 11-6 Skyline). Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. and the game can be heard live online, brought to you by the Privateer Radio Network, by clicking here.
