NEWBURGH, N.Y. (Jan. 12, 2010) – Maritime senior Andre Cooper (Baltimore, Md./Southwestern) scored a game- and season-high 30 points, leading the Privateers their first road victory of the season, 85-72, over Mount Saint Mary. With the win, Maritime improves to 6-3 (4-2 Skyline) and the Blue Knights fall to 5-8 (4-4 Skyline).
Cooper was 7-for-10 from the field and a stellar 15-for-18 from the free throw line. Senior Adedokun Olanrewaju (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin) chipped in 22 points, as both he and Cooper brought down four boards each. Juniors Giovanni Hurley (Brooklyn, N.Y./Middle College High) and Shamir Williams rounded out the Maritime players in double-figure scoring. Hurley registered 15 points and eight boards, while Williams recorded 14 points and had a team-high four assists. Sophomore Sam Porte (Harlem, N.Y./H.S. for Math, Science & Engineering) led all players in the game with nine rebounds.
The Privateers out-rebounded Mount Saint Mary, 37-28, and shot 58.8-percent from the line to the Blue Knights' 43.1-percent.
Maritime returns to action on Thursday, Jan. 14, when the squad plays host to Sage. Tipoff against the Gators is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Riesenberg Hall Gymnasium. The game will feature live audio via the internet on the Privateer Radio Network and can be accessed by clicking here.
