BROOKLYN, N.Y. (Sept. 25, 2009) – The Maritime volleyball team defeated Medgar Evers, 3-1, Thursday night in Brooklyn in a tune-up before Skyline Conference play gets underway this weekend. The Privateers improve to 3-2 on the season with the victory, while the Cougars fall to 2-6 overall.
Freshman Lauren Johnson (Lansing, Mich./Holt) tied for the match-high with eight kills and served up five aces to lead all players. The Lansing, Mich., native also recorded six digs in the contest. Sophomore Natalie Jackson (Stockton, Calif./Bear Creek) registered her second-straight 20-plus assist game by tallying a match-high 22 helpers to go along with six kills and three digs. Junior Natalie Warren (Peachtree City, Ga./Homeschooled) had a team-high seven digs, while senior Marissa Danzy (six kills, five blocks) and freshman Jerrica Romero (Bronx, N.Y./Herbert H Lehman) (six kills, four digs) also contributed to the victory.
The scores of each set were 25-18, 25-12, 18-25 and 25-18.
The Privateers return to action tomorrow, Sept. 26, when they travel to Albany, N.Y. for a Skyline Conference tri-match. There, the squad will take on hosts, The Sage Colleges, and Farmingdale State. Action is set to get underway at 11 a.m.
