Box Score 2 THROGS NECK, NY – The Privateer men's baseball team dropped both games of their home conference double header to Mount Saint Mary's, 10-1 and 5-0 respectively. The losses drop Maritime to 2-13 (0-8), while the Knights improved to 17-3 (6-2).
In game one, Maritime was held to one run on 6 hits in the game. The run came in the bottom half of the second inning, after Kyle Rockefeller (Greenlawn, N.Y./Harborfields) drove in Ryan Simpson (Levittown, N.Y./Holy Trinity), who was on base after being hit by a pitch. Maritime's Ed Witkowski (St. James, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) started the game on the mound, throwing 4.1 innings before an elbow injury caused him to leave the game. He finished having given up 5 hits and 4 runs (1 earned), along with 2 walks and a strikeout. Rockefeller came in to relieve him, pitching 4.2 innings and giving up 13 hits and 6 runs (5 earned). He struck out one batter as well.
Brian Visconti finished game one with 2 hits in 4 at bats for the Knights, while also driving in 3 runs. Max Teece finished with 2RBI on a 3-4 performance. Andrew Mayer (Sag Harbor, N.Y./Pierson) went 2-4 in the game to lead Maritime in the hit column.
In the second game, Dan McCrea pitched a complete game, 5 hitter, for the Knights. He struck out 4 batters and walked two, facing 26 batters in the 7 inning game. Matt Cresswell (Commack, NY/Commack) was on the mound for Maritime, going the complete 7 innings as well. Cresswell gave up 5 earned runs on 8 hits, to go along with 4 K's and 1 walk.
Cresswell and Henry Killian (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Our Lady of Lourdes) led Maritime's offense, as both went 2-3 in the game. Mike Zieser (Clark, N.J./Johnston) was the only other Privateer to record a hit. Jim Marsh went 2-3 with 3RBI to lead the Knight's in game two.
Maritime returns to the field on Tuesday to take on Lehman College. The home game is set to begin at 7:15 p.m.
