THROGS NECK, NY – The Dolphins from Mount Saint Vincent (18-12, 11-5) defeated the Privateers (5-19, 3-13) in Maritime's final game of the season, 11-5 and 16-4. The teams combined for 5 homeruns in the first game, and 6 in the second. Senior Matt Cresswell (Commack, NY/Commack) hit a homerun in his final at-bat as a Privateer, the 11th of his career, and third in two days. Nick Triolo had a great day for the Dolphins, hitting two homeruns in the first game (4-5 with 5RBI) and another homerun in the second game (1-2 with 4RBI).

In game one, the Privateers struck early, after AJ McPartlan (Huntington Station, N.Y./Walt Whitman) hit a solo shot leading off the bottom of the first inning. After two singles from Ryan Simpson (Levittown, N.Y./Holy Trinity) and Cresswell, Kyle Rockefeller (Greenlawn, N.Y./Harborfields) drove in his first of 3RBI in the game, with a single to center field. The 2-0 lead stood through the second inning, but the Dolphins tied it in their half of the third on a sacrifice fly and Triolo's first homerun in the game. Tied at 2 each, the Privateers took the lead back, scoring 2 in the third on a two-run homer from Rockefeller over the center field fence. Rockefeller finished the game 2-3 with 3RBI and a run scored.

The Dolphins bats began to pick up in the fourth, as Michael Lucre hit a solo shot and the visitors pulled to within 1. However, Maritime's bats seemed to run cold, as the Privateers were able to score only one run in the bottom of the 8th. The Dolphins scored 8 runs in that cold stretch, and took game one 11-5. Rockefeller was the losing pitcher, throwing 7 innings and giving up 11 hits, 9 runs (6 earned), 1 walk, and 4 strikeouts. Ryan Simpson (Levittown, N.Y./Holy Trinity) came in to finish the game, giving up 4 hits, 2 runs (1 earned), and 3 strikeouts.

In game two, the Dolphins jumped to an early 5-0 lead off starting pitcher Matt Cresswell. The inning began with a double from James Labartino, and an error by Maritime on a pop-up with 2 outs kept the inning alive long enough for Josh Cuozzo to hit a three-run homerun. Cuozzo finished the second game with 4RBI on 2-4 hitting.

The Privateers did get one back in the bottom half of the first, after a leadoff walk to McPartlan, a sacrifice from Mike Zieser (Clark, N.J./Johnston), and a wild pitch that brought AJ home after reaching third on a groundout. Despite the run on the board, Maritime did not record a hit until the third inning when McPartlan doubled in a run.

Maritime was held scoreless until the sixth inning, when the bats woke up and Mike Zieser (Clark, N.J./Johnston) led off with a homerun over the centerfield wall. Two batters later, Cresswell hit his 5th homerun of the season over the centerfield fence. Those two runs would close out the season for Maritime, as Mount Saint Vincent took the second game 16-4.

Cresswell threw 3 innings and gave up 6 hits, 8 runs (3 earned), 3 walks, and 5 strikeouts. John Bonner (Baltimore, Md./Delaney) relieved him for 3 innings, giving up 6 hits, 7 runs, 3 walks, and 2 strikeouts. Billy Gardner threw the final inning, giving up 1 hit, 1 run, and 1 strikeout.

For the Dolphins, Corey Kirsh got the game 1 win, going 4.1 innings and giving up 4 runs on 7 hits, while striking out 6. Rich Garcia got the save, getting the final 4 outs with no hits, runs, or walks. In game 2, Anthony Mongelli pitched 6 innings and gave up 4 runs on 4 hits and 3 walks. He struck out 7 before giving way to Joe Blackford who got the save. Blackford struck out 2 of the 3 batters he faced, assisting on the third out.
