THROGS NECK, NY – Yeshiva and Maritime finally had a rainless day to play, after being originally scheduled to play their double header on March 29th. After a rainout postponed Wednesday's single game, the two teams played a double header this morning. The Privateers won both games, defeating Yeshiva 9-5 and 14-3. The wins bring Maritime to 5-17 (3-11) and dropped Yeshiva to 3-16 (1-13).

In game one, Andrew Mayer (Sag Harbor, N.Y./Pierson) threw a complete game, facing 35 batters and giving up 9 hits. 4 of the 5 runs were earned and he struck out 4. The Privateers' offense was on top of their game early, putting up 4 runs in both the first and second innings. Matt Cresswell (Commack, NY/Commack) knocked in the first run with two outs, and Yeshiva had a chance to get out of the inning but an error prevented the final out. With two on base, Ed Witkowski (St. James, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) hit a homerun over the left field fence to give the Privateers an early 4-0 lead.

AJ McPartlan (Huntington Station, N.Y./Walt Whitman) got the 2nd inning rally started with a double to right center with one out. Mike Zieser (Clark, N.J./Johnston) knocked him in with a single, and Cresswell knocked Zieser in with his second hit in the game. A double off the top of the fence for Kyle Rockefeller (Greenlawn, N.Y./Harborfields) scored Cresswell and the Privateers held an 8-0 lead.

The game stayed 8-0 until the top of the 6th, where Yeshiva put together a 4 run rally. Two singles started the inning, and an error loaded the bases for the Maccabees. Andrew Mayer (Sag Harbor, N.Y./Pierson) walked in a run, then gave up a single to right field that brought home 2. Another single brought home the 4th run before Mayer was able to pitch out of the inning. Each team put up one run in their final at-bat, and the game ended with 19 total hits (10 for the Privateers) and 2 errors apiece. Witkowski recorded 4 RBI on 2-3 hitting, while Cresswell drove in 3 on a 3-4 game. Mike Zieser (Clark, N.J./Johnston) scored 3 runs, going 2-3 in the game.

In game two, Dan Anderson (Wilmington, Del./Delaware Military Acad.) was on the mound, and he also went the entire game. He gave up only 5 hits and 3 runs (1 earned) while striking out 4 and walking no one. Two errors in the first inning by the Privateer defense resulted in Yeshiva's first run, giving the Maccabees an early 1-0 lead. But Maritime took the lead in the next half inning, after Matt Cresswell hit a two-run homerun over the right field wall. A 1-2-3 half inning for Yeshiva brought the Maritime bats up again, and they put up three runs on 3 hits in the bottom half of the second. After a single and a walk, Matt Jernegan (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) doubled to right center to bring home 2 runs, and would later score on a Mike Zieser (Clark, N.J./Johnston) hit. The 5-1 lead would prove to be enough for the win.

The Privateer bats were not done though, as Cresswell hit his second homerun to lead off the bottom of the third, and then the team put up 5 runs on 4 hits in the bottom of the fifth, highlighted by Rockefeller's 2 RBI single to center field.

Matt Cresswell was 3-3 from the plate with 2 homeruns in the second game, bringing his double header total to 6-7 with two homeruns, 6 RBI and 5 runs scored, while improving his batting average 65 points to .265. Matt Jernegan (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) finished the second game with 3 RBI on 2-4 hitting, raising his batting average to a team high .360. Kyle Rockefeller (Greenlawn, N.Y./Harborfields), Ed Witkowski (St. James, N.Y./St. John the Baptist), and Dan Anderson (Wilmington, Del./Delaware Military Acad.) each finished with 2 RBI in the second game.

The Privateers will close their season tomorrow morning with a 10:00 AM double header against Mount Saint Vincent. The game will be played in Throgs Neck, NY.
