Box Score THROGS NECK, NY – Farmingdale State, the Skyline's top team in women's lacrosse, defeated the Privateers 20-3 on Maritime's home field Wednesday night. The win brings the Rams to 7-3, 6-0 while dropping the Privateers to 2-7, 1-3.
Four yellow cards were handed out in the first half, three given to Maritime, allowing for 5 man-up goals for the Rams. Farmingdale opened the game with the first 5 goals, before Kaitlin Murray (Blairstown, NJ/North Warren Regional) scored on a man-down play to put the Privateers on the board. That proved to be Maritime's only goal of the half, as they went into the break down 13-1.
The Rams added 4 more to open the second half, before Maritime tallied two in a row, one from Catherine Brady (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North) on a free position shot, and the other from Kaitlin Murray (Blairstown, NJ/North Warren Regional). Farmingdale closed the game with 3 more, securing the 20-3 victory.
Jackie Messina paced the Rams with 6 goals and 1 assist, followed by Theresa Rokee with 4 goals and Justine Rothar with 3 goals and 2 assists. Maritime's Kaitlin Murray (Blairstown, NJ/North Warren Regional) scored twice, bringing her season total to 12. Brady's goal moved her up to 18 goals on the season.
Julianne Cona (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) was in goal for Maritime, stopping 10 shots in 60 minutes. Courtney Cook was forced to make 4 saves in the game for the win. Farmingdale controlled 17 of the 25 draw controls, while picking up 30 ground balls and taking 28 shots. Maritime was held to 8 shots and 21 ground balls, while struggling to clear the ball (8-24) in the game.
Maritime will continue conference play this Saturday as they take on the Mount Saint Vincent Dolphins. The game has been moved to Maritime's campus and will be played at 4:00PM. The Privateers will still be considered the away team.
