Box Score 2 THROGS NECK, NY – The Privateer baseball team lost both games against Farmingdale on Saturday, falling to 2-8 (0-4) on the season. Maritime committed 7 errors in game one, and 5 in game two, en-route to 28-9 and 15-3 losses.
Down 6-2 after 4 innings of play, the Rams broke open the first game with 8 runs in the 5th inning. With the bases loaded and two outs, the Rams caught some luck as a routine pop up in foul territory was dropped by the Privateers. Farmingdale followed the drop with an RBI single and a grand slam, capping off the 8 run inning. The Rams brought home nine in the next inning to take a commanding lead and never look back.
For the Privateers, Matt Jernegan (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) went 2-4 with a run scored and 2RBI in game 1. Dan Anderson (Wilmington, Del./Delaware Military Acad.) went 1-2 with a homerun and 2RBI. Ed Witkowski (St. James, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) was the losing pitcher, giving up 7 runs (3 earned) in 4 innings pitched on 4 hits.
In game two, the Privateers jumped to an early 2-0 lead after the first inning, off an AJ McPartlan (Huntington Station, N.Y./Walt Whitman) homerun that came with two outs and a man on first. Maritime held Farmingdale scoreless until the 3rd inning, where they only gave up 1. However, the Ram's bats picked up in the fourth and went off for 10 runs on 6 hits and 4 Privateer errors. McPartlan finished the game with 3 hits in 3 at-bats, including a double and a homerun. Henry Killian (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Our Lady of Lourdes) knocked in Maritime's other run, finishing 1-3 in the game.
Andrew Mayer (Sag Harbor, N.Y./Pierson) was on the mound for Maritime in game 2, throwing 5.1 innings and giving up 15 runs (7 earned) on 11 hits. He struck out 4 before Kyle Rockefeller (Greenlawn, N.Y./Harborfields) came in to finish the game. Kyle finished the game without giving up a hit or a walk and striking out 2.
The Privateer's Sunday double header against Yeshiva was postponed because of rain. A date has not been set yet. Maritime's next game will be Tuesday at 7:00 PM against Fairleigh Dickinson.
