Box Score 2 THROGS NECK, NY – Due to lighting issues on the home field of the Panthers, the double header that was originally schedule for Monday , March 23rd, was split over two days. The first game was played Monday and the second Wednesday. Maritime lost both games, by finals of 7-5 and 8-3, respectively. Maritime's record fell to 2-6 (0-2) on the season.
In the first game, Maritime held a 5-4 lead after the top of the 5th, but couldn't close the game out. Dan Anderson (Wilmington, Del./Delaware Military Acad.) was the starting pitcher, going 7 innings and giving up 7 runs (5 earned) on 8 hits. He also struck out 8 of the 32 batter he faced. Offensively, Andrew Mayer (Sag Harbor, N.Y./Pierson) went 2-2 with an RBI and two walks. Ryan Simpson (Levittown, N.Y./Holy Trinity), AJ McPartlan (Huntington Station, N.Y./Walt Whitman), and Ed Witkowski (St. James, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) each had an RBI for the Privateers.
In the second game that was played on Wednesday, Matthew Cresswell (Commack, NY/Commack) was the starting pitcher, going 5 innings and striking out one. He gave up 11 hits and 6 runs (5 earned) in the loss. Ryan Simpson (Levittown, N.Y./Holy Trinity) went 2-3 in the game with a double, while Kyle Rockefeller (Greenlawn, N.Y./Harborfields) and Matt Jernegan (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) each had an RBI.
Maritime will play two home conference double headers this weekend, the first on Saturday against Farmingdale and the second on Sunday against Yeshiva. Both contests have 10:00AM starts.
