THROGS NECK, NY – The Privateer men's baseball team took both games of the home opening double header against St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn by final scores of 10-7 and 5-3. The wins even Maritime's record at 2-2 overall.

In the first game, the Privateers gave up two runs in the top half of the first, but scored 4 in each of the first two innings to take an 8-2 lead into the third. Matthew Cresswell (Commack, NY/Commack) cracked a three-run shot over the right center wall in the first inning, followed by an AJ McPartlan (Huntington Station, N.Y./Walt Whitman) homer in the second inning, a solo shot that cleared the center field fence. Maritime scored two more runs in the 4th inning to grab the first victory for Maritime this season. Ed Witkowski (St. James, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) picked up the win, throwing 5 innings and giving up 6 hits, 3 earned runs, 2 strikeouts, and 5 walks.

In the second game, Maritime put up another 4 runs in the first inning, after John Gould (Westbury, NY/Clark) and Ryan Simpson (Levittown, N.Y./Holy Trinity) each hit 2 run homeruns. The Privateers tacked on an insurance run in the 4th, but stellar pitching was the name of the game for Maritime. Andrew Mayer (Sag Harbor, N.Y./Pierson) got the win, pitching 5 innings of no-hit baseball. He left in the 6th after giving up the game's first two hits for St. Joseph's. He struck out 5 batters, walked 2, and gave up only two hits and a run.

St. Josephs' AJ Passione combined to go 3-7 in the two games, with 3 runs scored and an RBI. Jason Iannozzi was the only other player to have a multi hit game for SJB, going 2-4 in the first game and 0-3 in the second.

The Privateers will travel to Kings Point for a single game on March 19th. The game is scheduled to start at 4:00PM.
