Box Score THROGS NECK, NY - Despite a season high 31 points from senior Tim Dougherty (Fresh Meadows, NY, St. Francis Prep), the Privateers dropped their Skyline Conference Semi-Final match-up against St. Joseph's College in Patchogue 84-71. Dougherty finished with a double-double 31 points and 13 rebounds, representing the only Privateer in double figures in either category. The loss puts Maritime at 15-12 overall, still giving them a good chance for a bid into the ECAC Tournament that starts next week.
The Privateers started the game off slow, falling behind 10-2 at the 15 minute mark. The lead remained in the 10 point range for the first ten minutes of the half, until the Eagles started to pull away at the 9:25 mark. A 12-2 run for St. Joseph's opened their lead to 20 at 29-9 and the Privateers couldn't overcome the deficit and went into the locker room down 21 at 40-19.
Dougherty started the second half on fire, connected on his first 5 shots from the field, including 3 from behind the arc. Despite 13 straight points, the Privateers still found themselves down 19 at the 16:15 mark. St. Joseph's then went on a run of their own, pushing the lead to as much as 30 points midway through the second half. The Privateers didn't give in though, and continued to fight until the final buzzer. Down 29 points with 4:26 to play, Maritime held St. Joseph's scoreless for the remainder of the game, finishing on a 16-0 run to end the game with a 13 point loss.
Rahshawn Pringle (Bronx, N.Y./Frederick Douglas) (Bronx, NY, Frederick Douglas) finished the game with 9 points as Maritime's second leading scorer.
The Eagles were led by JJ Walsh with 28 points and 11 rebounds. David Acree followed with 17 on the night. St. Joseph's will go to Farmingdale to play in the Championship game on Saturday at 7:00PM. The Privateers will wait to hear whether or not they will be selected to play in the ECAC Metro Tournament.
