Privateers Remain Undefeated At Home With 66-47 Win Over Yeshiva

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Dec. 5, 2009) – The Maritime men's basketball team improved its home winning streak to four games to start the 2009-10 season by defeating conference-opponent Yeshiva, 67-44, Saturday night at the Riesenberg Hall Gymnasium. With the win, the Privateers improve to 4-2 overall (2-1 Skyline), while the Maccabees fall to an even 4-4 (3-2 Skyline).

 

Senior Andre Cooper (Baltimore, Md./Southwestern) led all players with 15 points and five assists, while junior Giovanni Hurley (Brooklyn, N.Y./Middle College High) and senior Adedokun Olanrewaju (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin) each had 14 points and a game-high nine rebounds. Junior Shamair Williams (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin) also chipped in with eight points and four boards.

 

Maritime came out strong in the first half, shooting a blistering 70.4-percent (19-for-27) from the field and out-rebounding the Macs 15-5 to build a 24-point lead by halftime, 44-20. The Privateers saw their lead grow to as much as 30 points in the second half as they maintained the pressure and cruised to the victory.

 

Up next for the Maritime basketball team is the final game of 2009. The Privateers will play host to NYU-Poly (1-2, 0-1 Skyline) on Tuesday, Dec. 8, before their month-long winter break begins. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Riesenberg Hall Gymnasium.
