THROGS NECK, N.Y. (Nov. 30, 2009) – Maritime junior Shamair Williams (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin) was named to the Skyline Conference Men's Basketball weekly honor roll, as announced by the league on Monday. The accolade comes after Williams led the Privateers to a 76-34 home win over St. Joseph's-Brooklyn on Tuesday, Nov. 24.

Williams nearly recorded a triple-double in the game as he led all players with 17 points, eight rebounds and seven assists. The 6-4, 210-pounder was 6-for-12 from the field, including a 1-for-2 mark from beyond the arc, while hitting four of his five free throws. He also added three steals and a block to help improve Maritime to a 2-1 record.
The Brooklyn, N.Y., native also ranks among the Skyline's top players in four categories as his 12.0 points per game is tied for 12th, his 4.33 assists per game ranks fifth, his 2.33 steals ties him with teammate and classmate Giovanni Hurley (Brooklyn, N.Y./Middle College High) for sixth in the conference and his .800 free throw percentage ranks 10th in the league. Hurley also ranks 16th in the Skyline with 11.7 points per game and tied for fifth in the conference with 1.0 blocked shots per game. Also ranking among the league's best are junior Quamel Lyerly (Inwood, N.Y./Lawrence) and senior Kevin Josey (Staten Island, N.Y./Monroe Webster). Lyerly ranks 20th with 11.3 points per game, third with 2.67 steals per game and fifth with a .667 field goal percentage, while Josey's .600 3-point fg percentage is tied for third in the conference and his 2.00 trey's per game is tied for sixth.
As a team, the Privateers rank first in the Skyline in scoring defense by holding opponents to 52.3 points per game and just a .333 field goal percentage, and also lead the conference in scoring margin (+19.7) and 3-point field goal percentage (.440). Maritime is second in the league with 12.67 steals per game, while its .500 field goal percentage is tied for second and its +7.0 rebounding margin ranks third. The Privateers are also tied for fourth in the league in scoring offense with 72.0 points per game.
The Maritime men's basketball team returns to the court tonight, Dec. 1, when they travel to face Skyline-opponent Old Westbury at 7 p.m. in Long Island.
