Men’s Soccer Falls To St. Joseph’s, 6-1

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Oct. 6, 2009) – The Maritime men's soccer team lost to Skyline opponent St. Joseph's-L.I., 6-1, Tuesday at Reinhart Field. With the loss, the Privateers fall to 6-5 (1-3 Skyline), while the Golden Eagles improve to 5-7 overall (3-0 Skyline).

 

St. Joseph's would tally its first goal just 1:20 into the game, as Adam Rogers beat the defender on the right side for a breakaway and blasted it into the bottom right to give the Golden Eagles a 1-0 lead. Rogers would score two more times for a hat trick, while teammate John Dettori also registered three goals.

 

Maritime's lone goal came from senior David Witzke in the 64th minute. His tally, which was assisted by sophomore Cesur Alagoz, made the score 3-1. In net for the Privateers, junior keeper Harris Papson played just 31 minutes and made two saves before leaving the game. He was replaced by freshman Michael Vanadia, who played the rest of the first and the entire second half, making a career-high eight saves.

 

The Maritime men's soccer team returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 10, when they travel to Manhattan to play NYU-Poly. Kickoff between the Privateers and the Fighting Blue Jays is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Chelsea Piers.
