WESTBURY, N.Y. (Oct. 14, 2009) – The men's soccer team defeated Skyline-opponent Old Westbury, 3-1, Wednesday night at the Panther's Soccer Field. The Privateers improve to 8-5-1 overall (2-3-1 Skyline) with the victory, while Old Westbury falls to 7-6-1 (3-2 Skyline).

 

The sophomores led the way for Maritime in the game, as John Blunden, Jason Tursi (Farmingdale, N.Y./Plainedge) and Cesur Alagoz (Istanbul, Turkey/Ching Deru) score the goals, while junior Erik Mittermeier picked up one assist. In goal, junior Harris Papson (Flushing, N.Y./Francis Lewis) made nine saves and picked up his eighth win of the season.

 

Blunden got the scoring started with his tally in the 39th minute. The Panthers tied the game just over 10 minutes later. In the second half, Maritime retook the lead when Tursi scored his first goal since the Sept. 11 win over City College in the 69th minute, off a feed from Mittermeier. Alagoz closed out the scoring with second goal in as many games.

 

The Privateers return to the pitch on Saturday, Oct. 17, when they play host to conference-foe, the Bard Raptors, at noon on Reinhart Field.
