Baseball Drops Conference Double Header

THROGGS NECK, NY - The SUNY Maritime baseball team fell to Mount Saint Vincent on the road 10-0 and 10-1 in the conference double header on Sunday afternoon.  Maritime dropped to 2-4 in the conference with the losses.

The Privateers struggled at the plate in the opening game, managing only 3 hits and drawing only 1 walk.  Brenton Yockel (Rochester, N.Y./Churchville-Chili) (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili), Greg Oliva (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) (Seaford, NY/Seaford), and Anthony Tenga (Throggs Neck, N.Y./Fordham Prep) (Throggs Neck, NY/Fordham Prep) each recorded a hit.  Pitcher James Hoffman (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) (East Islip, NY/East Islip) was on the mound for the Privateers, pitching 5 innings.  He gave up 8 hits and 7 runs, while striking out 8.  Ryan Simpson (Levittown, N.Y./Holy Trinity) (Levittown, NY/Holy Trinity) came in on relief, striking out 4 in 3 innings.

The second game proved to be similar to the first, with Maritime recording 5 hits.  Oliva finished the game hitting 2-3 and AJ McPartlan (Huntington Station, N.Y./Walt Whitman) (Huntington Station, NY/Walt Whitman) drove in the Privateer's lone run.  Matthew Cresswell (Commack, NY/Commack) (Commack, NY/Commack) was the starter, going 5 innings and striking out 2.  Andrew Mayer (Sag Harbor, N.Y./Pierson) (Sag Harbor, NY/Pierson) pitched 1 inning, striking out all three batters faced.

The Privateers will be on the road again at Lehman College on Wednesday.  The single game is scheduled for 4:00PM.
