THROGGS NECK, NY - The SUNY Maritime baseball team concluded their 2008 campaign at home against St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) with a pair of victories, 11-3 and 10-8.  The Privateers finish at 7-20 overall, almost doubling last season's win total.

The first game was called following the third inning, after a major injury to a St. Joseph's outfielder.  Matthew Montanes (Elmhurst, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) (Elmhurst, NY/St. Francis Prep) hit his second homerun in as many games, driving in 3 runs on a 2-2 game from the plate.   Andrew Mayer (Sag Harbor, N.Y./Pierson) (Sag Harbor, NY/Pierson) was the winning pitcher, giving up 5 hits and striking out one.

Mayer started the second game as well, and pitched 4 innings, giving up 4 runs on 5 hits.  He recorded the win, thanks to a 4 run bottom of the 4th for the Privateers.  Matt Cresswell (Commack, NY/Commack) was a large part of that inning, hitting his 4th homerun in 7 games.  Cresswell extended his hitting streak to 8 games, bringing his batting average up to .345 (from .286) during that streak.  Greg Oliva (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) (Seaford, NY/Seaford) had a solid game, batting 3-4 with a double, a run scored, and an RBI.  Oliva was the only Privateer with a multi-hit performance.

The Privateers have 5 seniors that will be graduating; namely Chris Watson (Bayville, NY/Locust Valley), James Hoffman (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) (East Islip, NY/East Islip), Joseph Carofano (Greenlawn, N.Y./St. Anthony's) (Greenlawn, NY/St. Anthony's), Brenton Yockel (Rochester, N.Y./Churchville-Chili) (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili), and Matt Thomas (Staten Island, NY/Curtis).  The coaches and players would like to thank them for their hard work and dedication over their years as a Privateer.
