Cresswell's Two Homeruns Not Enough to Win Over Purchase in Double Header

THROGGS NECK, NY - The SUNY Maritime baseball team dropped both games of the conference double header against Purchase 16-3 and 14-7.  Maritime dropped to 5-17 (5-9) on the season.

Junior Matt Cresswell (Commack, NY/Commack) went 3-6 over the two games, hitting a homerun in each and driving in 6 of the 10 total runs.  He also pitched the second game, going 5 innings and striking out 3.  Cresswell took Chad Charney yard in the first inning of the first game, sending it over the left center fence and bringing in Brenton Yockel (Rochester, N.Y./Churchville-Chili) (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) who had singled to lead off the inning.  In the second game, Cresswell pulled one over the right field fence in the 5th inning.  He later singled to drive in two runs, for his fourth RBI of the game.

The only other Privateer to record an RBI was Matthew Montanes (Elmhurst, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) (Ellmhurt, NY/St. Francis Prep) who did so in the 6th inning of the second game, taking a pitch to the back with the bases loaded.  James Hoffman (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) (East Islip, NY/East Islip) was the losing pitcher in the first game, giving up 8 runs on 8 hits over 5 innings.  He struck out 3 before coming out in the 6th.

For the Panthers, Anthony Dowalo had a solid two games, going 4-9 and driving in 6 total runs.  He too had a homerun in each game.  Charney got the win in the first game, going 7 innings and giving up 2 runs on 3 hits.  He struck out 7 and walked 4.  Eric Golden was on the mound in the second game, earning the win by pitching 5.2 innings and giving up 6 runs on 6 hits and striking out 2.

The Privateers will be on the road for a double header  tomorrow against Drew University.  The game is scheduled to begin at noon.
