Privateer Baseball Adds Another Conference Victory

THROGGS NECK, NY - The SUNY Maritime baseball team added another conference victory to their record, as they defeated Mount Saint Mary's in the first game of a double header on Sunday afternoon.  The Privateers won 8-4, but fell in the second game 23-5.

Dan Anderson (Wilmington, Del./Delaware Military Acad.) (Wilmington, DE/Wilmington Military) pitched 7 innings for the win, allowing only two runs on 7 hits.  He faced 29 batters, striking out 1 and walking 1.  Offensively, Brenton Yockel (Rochester, N.Y./Churchville-Chili) (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) and Jacob Nessel (Montauk, N.Y./East Hampton) (Montauk, NY/East Hampton) led the way with 2RBI apiece.  Each went 1-3 for th first game.  Henry Killian (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Our Lady of Lourdes) (Poughkeepsie, NY/Lourdes) was the only Privateer with a multi hit game, going 2-5 with 2 runs scored.  Joseph Carofano (Greenlawn, N.Y./St. Anthony's) (Greenlawn, NY/St. Anthony's) had Maritime's only extra base hit, with a double, bringing home the Privateer's first run of the game.

The second game was a tough one for the Privateers, who managed only 5 hits in the 7 innings played.  AJ McPartlan (Huntington Station, N.Y./Walt Whitman) (Huntington Station, NY/Walt Whitman) went 1-1 with 3RBI on a double in the 6th inning.  Matt Thomas (Staten Island, NY/Curtis) also came off the bench with a double and a run scored.  Ed Witkowski (St. James, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) (St. James, NY/St. John the Baptist) was the losing pitcher, throwing 2 innings and giving up 6 runs on 4 hits. 

The Privateers are scheduled to play at Yeshiva on Monday night at 7:30PM.  The second game of the conference double header is scheduled for 4/11, and will be played at Maritime College.
