THROGGS NECK, NY – After tossing a nine-inning complete game shutout against St. Joseph's Brooklyn on Saturday, freshman
Ryan Morash (Merrick, NY) of the Maritime College baseball team has been selected as the Skyline Conference Pitcher of the Week. Morash allowed just five hits and one walk while notching a career-high 10 strikeouts in the 8-0 victory, his second shutout of the season.
He also pitched three innings of relief against No. 29 Montclair State on Tuesday. Morash gave up two runs on four hits, walked one and struck out one in the loss. For the week, he tossed 12 innings and recorded 11 strikeouts. With those two efforts, Morash lowered his season ERA from 3.09 to 2.28.
Four different Privateers have now earned a Skyline weekly honor this season, and one Maritime player has been recognized each week.
Joe Demos (South Hempstead, NY) was previously the Skyline Pitcher of the Week on March 16, while
Joey Goodman (Merrick, NY) was chosen as the Skyline Player of the Week on March 9. In addition,
Guytano Kiesel (Bayport, NY) earned a Rookie of the Week nod on March 23.
The Privateers (9-9, 6-0 Skyline) are back in action on Thursday, when they visit Mount St. Mary (7-13, 2-4 Skyline) for a 12 p.m. doubleheader. It will be the first time the teams are meeting since the Knights eliminated Maritime from last year's Skyline Tournament.
