THROGGS NECK, NY – For the third time in as many weeks to start the 2026 season, a member of the Maritime College baseball team has been recognized by the Skyline Conference. Freshman catcher
Guytano Kiesel (Bayport, NY) was named Skyline Rookie of the Week after belting two home runs in Game 2 of a doubleheader sweep against Mount St. Vincent on Saturday.
Kiesel had three extra-base hits in the game, knocking a three-run double to go along with his two long balls. He finished 3-for-5 with three runs scored and six RBIs in the 13-2 win. In Game 1 of the twinbill, a 16-8 victory, Kiesel was 1-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Across the two contests, he hit a combined .444 (4-for-9) and slugged 1.222. Kiesel drove in seven runs while scoring five times, as the Privateers started conference play 2-0 for the third consecutive year.
A Maritime player has now won each of the conference's three weekly awards this season.
Joey Goodman (Merrick, NY) was selected as the Skyline Player of the Week on March 9, and
Joe Demos (South Hempstead, NY) earned Skyline Pitcher of the Week honors on March 16.
After playing eight straight games at Reinhart Baseball Field, the Privateers (5-8) hit the road on Tuesday for a 3 p.m. matchup with Montclair State (14-4). The contest is a make-up of the Feb. 25 game that was postponed due to winter weather and unplayable field conditions.
