Demos Earns Skyline Pitcher of the Week Nod

THROGGS NECK, NY – Freshman pitcher Joe Demos (South Hempstead, NY) of the Maritime College baseball team has been named Skyline Conference Pitcher of the Week.  He earned his first collegiate win by tossing a five-hit shutout against Baruch on Saturday.

Demos gave up just five singles and didn't allow a baserunner to get past second in the game.  He faced four batters over the minimum, walking three while also inducing three ground ball double plays.  Demos was credited with eight strikeouts in the 11-0 victory.

This marks the second straight week to start the season in which a Privateer has received a Skyline weekly award.  Joey Goodman (Merrick, NY) was the Skyline Player of the Week on March 9.  Maritime's last Skyline Pitcher of the Week was Matt Demme, who was recognized last season on April 23.

The Privateers (2-8) are in the midst of a span where they play eight straight and 10 of 13 at Reinhart Baseball Field.  Maritime returns to action with a 7 p.m. contest against John Jay (1-10) on Thursday.  The game was rescheduled from Tuesday due to the forecast of cold temperatures.
