Chase Miller Crowned Skyline Conference Champion

Results: Men | Women

STONY BROOK, NY –
For the first time since 2014, the Skyline Conference individual champion is a member of the Maritime College men's cross country team.  Chase Miller (West Islip, NY) broke his own school record with a time of 25:42.5 over 8000 meters at the Stony Brook University Cross Country Course to claim the 2026 Skyline individual title on Sunday.  He was also honored as the Skyline Runner of the Year and Rookie of the Year, as well as a First Team All-Skyline choice.

Miller is the third Privateer to be crowned Skyline champion, joining Nicholas Sherman in 2014 and Cameron Coneys in 2012.  All three won the title as a freshman.  Miller also became the first runner in program history to break the 26-minute barrier, taking 30 seconds off his previous school mark of 26:12.76.  He won the race by nearly two minutes over second-place finisher Caden Davis of Merchant Marine.

With Miller leading the way, the Privateers took third in the team standings, their best result since tying for second in 2022.  Maritime finished with 78 points, 10 behind Farmingdale.  Merchant Marine clinched the team title with 32 total points.

Mickey Beser (Bel Air, MD) captured Second Team All-Skyline honors with a ninth-place showing.  His time was 28:59.2.  Neil Landow (Pamlico County, NC) was 19th overall in 29:42.5, while Philip Downes (Levittown, NY) grabbed 27th place with a 30:37.0 clocking.  Michael Arnold (Brooklyn, NY) finished among the Privateers' scoring quintet for the first time.  He finished 42nd overall in a time of 32:45.4.

On the women's side, Cindy Chen (Huntington Station, NY) earned a Second Team All-Skyline nod for the second straight year.  She placed 11th overall, completing the 6000-meter course in 26:47.3.  Erin Doyle (Munich, Germany) just missed joining her on the All-Skyline Second Team.  Her time of 27:35.8 was good for 15th place.  DoriEllen Padden (Palm City, FL) ended up 18th in 28:11.5, while Eily Kochon (Ulster Park, NY) finished 25th with a 29:04.0 clocking.  Nicole Mejia (Garden City, NY) rounded out Maritime's top five with a 33rd-place effort (31:25.9).

As a team, the Privateers ended up with 92 points, just one behind St. Joseph's LI for second place.  Merchant Marine won the Skyline women's team title with a score of 62 points.  Maritime's third-place showing was its second straight, and the Privateers extended their streak to six consecutive Skyline Championships finishing on the podium.

Maritime will return to action on Nov. 7 at the ECAC North Championships, which will be held at the Hudson Valley Sports Dome in Hudson, NY.  Last year, the Privateer women's team placed third and the men took fifth at the ECAC meet.
