THROGGS NECK, NY – Anthony Trotta has been named Head Coach of the Maritime College football program.  He joins the Privateers after serving as the Defensive Coordinator at Union College last season.  Trotta was previously the Defensive Coordinator at his alma mater, Wilkes University, from 2022-23, and participated in the 2022 NCAA/NFL Football Coaches Academy.

"I'm truly honored to be the next Head Football Coach at Maritime College," he said.  "From my first conversations on campus, it was clear that this is a community filled with dedicated, mission-driven people who care deeply about the development of their students and student-athletes.  Leading this program is about more than the game of football.  It's about shaping disciplined, career-ready men.  I'm excited to get to work and build on the proud tradition of this program."

While at Union, Trotta coached the inside linebackers in addition to his role as Defensive Coordinator.  Under his guidance, Cole DaSilva ranked among the top five nationally with 121 tackles in 2024.  Six members of the Garnet Chargers' defense earned All-Liberty League honors, including a pair of D3football.com All-Region selections.

Nine of Trotta's defensive players were named all-conference during his two years at Wilkes.  In 2022, the Colonels allowed just 18.3 points per game enroute to a 7-3 record.  Wilkes had 13 interceptions and seven forced fumbles while scoring five defensive touchdowns that season.  Overall, the Colonels recorded 47 sacks and 124 tackles for loss during his two seasons leading the defense.

A 2017 Wilkes graduate, Trotta was the special teams captain as a senior.  He began his collegiate coaching career as the Colonels' Defensive Line Coach and Video Coordinator in 2019.  After one year as the Special Teams Coordinator at John Carroll University, Trotta spent the 2021 campaign as the Recruiting Coordinator and Special Teams Coordinator at Oberlin College.  He was promoted to Co-Defensive Coordinator following that season.

Trotta takes over for Jamel Ramsay, who stepped away from the position after being elevated to Maritime's Director of Athletics in March.  His first game as the Privateers' head coach will be the annual Chowder Bowl at Mass Maritime on Friday night, Sept. 5.
